Wood floors and life

I'm laying hardwood floors in the room that used to be the dinning room. 1) I decided the dinning room needed to be an office  2) who the heck puts carpet in a dinning room anyway?  Nasty!!.  3) the dog had a serious case of diarrhea and so the carpet finally had to go. (Thanks Rudy).   I am no carpenter but I decided to do it myself besides, since I'm going through a mid life crisis, swinging a hammer might feel really good. (Oh yes, it does)

I've learned a lot in the past week of being on my hands and knees, cutting, measuring,  hammering, remeasuring  because I cut wrong (yes Dad, I know measure twice cut once).   Laying wood floors is like Tetris,  there is a method to it and if you mess up 20 boards ago and don't realize it then that row is a goner.  Take it all up and start again, I've only had to restart 3 times.    Once you start to get the hang of it, it's somewhat easy and you learn to catch your mistakes early.

Life is like this, sometimes we don't catch our mistakes until it's too late and we have to completely start over.  Sometimes we can go 40 years and not realize were laying our life down wrong, then suddenly BAM!   WTF?    We must start over.  Relearn things that seem to come naturally for most, learning who we are and realizing that the master carpenter (God) has a plan for you to follow.  He's giving you room to make small mistakes but also giving you room to figure them out so that you only have to take a step or two back instead of starting over.

I'm really proud that I'm almost done laying the wood floor, I did it by myself and it looks pretty good.  I'm even more proud that I'm learning more every day about myself, about grace and about forgiveness.

It's life, we're all gonna mess up, don't be too hard on yourself, live in grace and know that you only do your best until you know better...then, you do better.
