Rough Flights

Getting to our destination isn't always as easy as we planned or hoped for.  Sometimes there are bumps in the road, sometimes there are delays, sometimes the path is completely different than we planned, sometimes even, the destination is somewhere we never thought we'd go.  My Mom used to say the more difficult it is to get there, the better it'll be once you arrive.  I thought she was nuts yet now, I get it, my Mom is wise.

Traveling last week, the flight home was rough.   I was late to the airport, had to stand in line for security for what seemed to be forever, had just minutes to get to my gate and then had to sit by the two biggest men on the plane.  We landed, I boarded the next plane and it was bumpy air the entire flight.  As I sat looking out the window, white knuckling it, I thought to myself how this flight was so much like life.

I wanted to be home, I wanted my bed, I wanted my sleep and the only way to get there was through some turbulence.  So, as someone who is learning to trust God more and more every day, I closed my eyes and trusted that soon enough I would be home.  We landed, not a smooth landing but a safe one and I grabbed my bags, and Ubered it home and fell fast asleep, safe and sound.

Life isn't easy, yet the rough flights we experience get us to where we need to be.   The hard times teach us lessons that smooth flights would never be able to do.  So, I embrace this bumpy flight called life, I accept where I am and I thank God for the lessons I am learning.  Where I will land is way better than where I thought I wanted to be.  I will be stronger,  happier, more loved and capable of loving more than ever.

Boaz, you're one lucky man
